Mrs Vilasini Menon, a lawyer, was Singapore’s first elected woman Legislative Councilor from the Seletar Ward at the 1951 Council elections. It must have been an exhilarating experience being the first woman in Singapore to be elevated to such an enviable position. The Indian community would have been very proud of her achievement. But unfortunately she couldn\u2019t serve her full term Legislative. Councilor\u2019s position. Some pressing personal problems back home in Kerala, India warranted her immediate attention.
