Professor Rajmohan Nambiar MBBS, FAMS, FRCS (Edin), FRCS (England), FACS, FACP (Hon), FRACP (Hon).

Raj Mohan Nambiar was born and educated in India. He hails from Kerala India. After completing his postgraduate surgical training in U.K, he joined Singapore Medical service in 1964 as a surgeon.

Professor Nambiar is currently a Visiting Consultant to Tan Tock Seng hospital , Singapore General hospital and Khoo Teck Puat hospital as well as Emeritus Consultant to Changi General Hospital and Clinical Professor at National University Singapore.

During his professional career he has distinguished himself as an outstanding surgeon, mentor, and teacher for over 50 years. He has served as head of surgery at Toa Payoh Hospital (1975-85), Singapore General Hospital (1985-93) and as senior surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was also a Senior Consultant at MOH for 13 years.

He served as Master of the Academy of Medicine Singapore from 1990-1992 was a Council member of the Academy of Medicine for over 20 years. He was elected President of the Singapore Medical Council from 2005-2008 and was a member of the Singapore Medical Council for 10 years. He was a member of the council of the Singapore Cancer Society for 26 years (1975-2001) and Chairman of the Society in 2000.

He served on the Board of Directors of SingHealth, Singapore’s largest public healthcare cluster for 10 years till 2018. He was appointed to the Governing Board of Duke-NUS Medical School from 2016-2020, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Alexandra Health Fund from 2011 to date.

Over the course of his long career, Prof Nambiar has been actively involved in teaching and post-graduate medical training. He was a Board member of the NUS School of Postgraduate Medical Studies for 17 years, member of the Specialists Accreditation Board for 24 years and Chairman of surgical training and advisory committees of the Ministry of Health for over 25 years.

Professor Nambiar was recognized for his many years of distinguished public service with two National Awards: The Public Administration Medal (PPA ) in 1978 and the Public Service Star (BBM) in 2008.

Beyond the shores of Singapore, Prof Nambiar was founding council member of the Asian Surgical Association and served as its President from 1983-85. He also served as council member of several prestigious international surgical (ISS/SIS) and cancer organisations (UICC, APFOCC). He has been on the editorial boards of international surgical journals including the British Journal of Surgery, Australian and New Zealand Journal of surgery, Archives of Surgery and founding Editor in Chief of Asian Journal of Surgery.

He was a visiting professor and examiner at several Universities and had the privilege of being examiner for Fellowship Examinations of all three the Royal College of Surgeons in U.K and Royal Australian College of Surgeons. He has received several Honorary Fellowships (FRACP, FACP, FRACS, FPCS), named lectureships and special awards (RCSE medal 1995, Sir Pehin Isah medal 2003).

Prof Nambiar has sat on more than 35 advisory and specialist committees over the years and his wisdom is well sought.

Prof Nambiar is not only par excellent in his clinical surgery, he is also a very effective bedside teacher, a distinguished researcher, and a very capable administrator.

He has published and co-authored more than 100 publications and has membership in numerous editorial boards.

His name is well-known in Australia, the UK, America and the Asia-Pacific region.
