Dr V P Nair (Parameswaran Nair) is a Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at “Nair Cardiac and Medical Centre”, Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Orchard & Novena and Visiting Consultant at National Heart Centre Singapore. He graduated from King George`s Medical College, Lucknow with MBBS. Subsequently he worked as a cardiologist in Singapore and England and obtained Post Graduate degrees MRCP (UK), MRCP (Ireland), MRCGP (UK) and FAMS (Cardiology- Singapore). He has further post doctorate degrees FRCP (London), FRCP (Edinburgh), FRCP (Ireland), FRCGP (UK), FACC (USA), FESC (Paris) and FSCAI (USA).
He worked in reputed Hospitals in Singapore, England and USA. Initially, he worked as a Cardiologist at the Regional Cardiothoracic Centre, Freeman Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne UK with Professor Ronald. W. F. Campbell and Professor Desmond Julian, the British Heart Foundation Professors of Cardiology. Subsequently, he worked with the world-renowned Prof Richard K Myler at San Francisco Heart Institute, Seton Medical Centre, USA. He also worked at Cleveland clinic, Ohio, USA, with Professor William Sheldon and Borussia University Hospital, Paris, France, with Professor J L Guermonprez as Interventional cardiologist. He has been doing PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions) including complex Angioplasty and stenting for the last three decades in Singapore and many other countries. Since 10 years, his son Dr Dinesh Nair also a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist has joined him as “Heart Matters” and they are doing complex cardiac cases together.
He teaches cardiology to undergraduate and Post Graduate Medical students in Singapore and abroad. He also teaches nurses and para-medical staff. He has published many scientific papers. He has chaired and addressed the World Congress of Cardiology and many international cardiology conventions and scientific meetings. He gives regular CME (Continues Medical Educations) talks at various medical facilities in many Asian countries. He is an active member of many local and international heart associations. He is a sports and exercise enthusiast and won Singapore medical association annual senior golf championship trophy in 2000.
He was the President of GOPIO (Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin) Singapore for 16 years and he is now its advisor. He was the President of the Hindu Centre Singapore, and he is now the Patron. He was the President of the Singapore Malayalee Association and he is now the Trustee. He was the Vice President of Chinmaya Seva Centre. He is the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Serangoon Garden Orchard. He was the Treasurer of the Singapore Medical Association. He is an active fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore.
He was awarded Public Service Medal (PBM) and “Grand Award for Community Service” in Singapore. He was also bestowed with Outstanding Malayalee award in Singapore and Hind Rattan award in India. He was a patron of Henderson Dawson Citizens Consultative Committee as well as civil defence. He is the patron of Cairnhill community club. He has published a book “Healing Hearts, Touching Minds, The Journey of an Interventional Cardiologist”, with 640 pages including his biography, social work and medical articles especially in cardiology. It was officially launched on 15/01/2021 by Minister Dr Tan See Leng at SRC Singapore. All the proceedings of the book were donated to the Straits Time school pocket money fund.
