Samson Gimson, a celebrated Singaporean professional golfer, has been making waves in the golfing world since he first picked up a club at the age of 11. His journey began with a bang, claiming his first major amateur title at the Malacca Open in 1984, quickly followed by a win at the prestigious Singapore Island Country Club Open Invitation. Gimson’s amateur career was nothing short of spectacular, amassing a slew of championships including the Singapore Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Amateur, Sentosa Invitational, Desaru Amateur, Pahang Open Amateur, Perak Amateur Open, and Selangor Amateur Open.

From 1985 to 1989, Gimson represented Singapore on the national golf team, showcasing his talent on a larger stage. In 1989, he achieved a remarkable milestone by bringing home Singapore’s first gold medal in golf at the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, as well as competing in the esteemed Eisenhower Trophy. His outstanding performance during this time earned him the Coca-Cola Award in year 1988.

Gimson dominated Southeast Asia’s golf scene from 1985 to 1989, holding the Singapore No 1 top spot among amateur golfers.

Transitioning to professional golf in 1990, Gimson’s career continued to flourish. He clinched the Singapore PGA Championship that same year after finishing as the runner-up in 1989. In 1991, he dominated Malaysia’s TDC Tours, leading him to win the Order of Merit.

With a determined spirit, he ventured to Japan to compete at a higher level, earning his Japan PGA Tour card in 1993. In his debut year, he captured the Nikkei Cup with a dazzling -12 under par, setting the stage for a successful tenure on the tour until 1998. During this period, he also showcased his skills on the DP World Tour, participating in events like the Dubai Desert Classic and Johnnie Walker Classic, where he achieved an impressive 11th-place finish at the Dubai Desert Classic in 1995. In 1996, he triumphed at the Emirates PGA Singapore Championship and 1997 at the Anderson Consulting Champions of Champions.

From 1990 to 1996, he transitioned to professional golf and continued his reign on winning all southeast Asia’s tournament as the Singapore No 1 rank golfer.

Gimson’s dedication, skill, and passion for golf have solidified his status as a formidable presence on the golf course, with a legacy that continues to inspire aspiring golfers worldwide.
